3 die in parked car with AC on in Delhi


In a tragedy that highlights the danger of keeping the AC running for long periods in a parked car, three south Delhi businessmen were found dead in their Honda City in R K Puram, south Delhi, on Monday night. The trio was in the parked car for over four hours, discussing business plans, and died of suspected carbon monoxide poisoning.
They were identified as Bal
winder Singh, 34, a resident of Vasant Vihar, Nishant Dutta, 26, from Sarojini Nagar and Laxman Kumar, 35, from R K Puram. The 2006 model Honda City had a CNG unit fitted. The police and forensic and medical experts have prima facie ruled out foul play . They suspect that carbon monoxide from the engine kept leaking into the passenger cabin and caused a slow, painless death for the occupants.
The three were closetted in the car from6pm till their bodies were found, with froth oozing from the mouth, around 10.15pm, police said.
An autopsy has been conducted on the bodies and its re port is awaited. Sources said initial findings indicated poisoning and the viscera will be sent for toxicology examination to CFSL. The result of alcohol examination is awaited.
The family, however, has alleged foul play and demanded a probe into the deaths. They said at least Rs 1.5 lakh cash was missing from the car. DCP (south) B S Jaiswal said they had started inquest proceedings under 174 CrPC and were investigating all angles.
